Goel was honest about Polygon's (MATIC) efforts to promote NFT games last week at Cointelegraph in Seoul, and why Korean game publishers like Neowiz and Nexon are diving headfirst into the space.
One of the main arguments Goel makes is that traditional business models in which NFTs compete with games may naturally be weaker. In traditional games, customers generally use real money to purchase in-game items, but they cannot sell these items to recover any dollar value.
However, for game finance (GameFi) in most game fields, users can buy irreplaceable tokens and sell them after playing the game. Goel calls the traditional model "money, no money" and emphasizes that players should be able to get back some of the dollar value they put into the game.
"We just want the user to own what they bought. If they choose to sell it, if they choose to keep it, fine, fine, fine [...] But even if you get a penny, it's better than nothing, right?"
Goel said he sees a notable signal that traditional game publishers are preparing to enter GameFi in a big way, starting with Nexon, the Korean gaming giant that owns MapleStory. According to the game news outlet mmorpg, it will announce that a version of its flagship game, MapleStoryN, will be launched in June.
Polygon also has a strategic partnership with South Korea's Neowiz to link new and existing games.
He noted that these big players are creating a "domino effect" in the industry to "show that they are still innovative". Goel, this means that the bosses of big companies entering the blockchain field must have full confidence in this technology, otherwise they will not dress up their top games at GameFi.
[These developers can have successful businesses without getting into the blockchain. They`re generating hundreds of millions, if not billions, in revenue over traditional web teams."
ROK Capital`s Anthony Yoon agrees, telling Cointelegraph that the GameFi publisher`s digital currency is [a perfect match."

Part of Goel's confidence in the bright future of NFT games and GameFi comes from lively discussions in the community. Although he says he doesn't have hard data to back his claim, he believes he has "millions of fans" with a large community of people who are excited about new game titles being brought to their channels.
"So to me, the data is more than a reporter writing an article about why X'NFT good article can explain the problem better."
