NFT Discord Channel Records 100 Hacks Worth $22M in 2 Months

In the past few months, hackers have attacked Discord, the social media platform used by many famous celebrity NFT projects, with frightening frequency. In the past 2 months, ChainAbuse has received more than 100 Discord hacking channels.

This number was reported by blockchain intelligence reporting platform TRMLabs on July 25, 2022. According to the report, phishing attacks related to forging scams by infecting Discord accounts to deploy NFTs by infecting Discord accounts increased by 55% in June compared to the previous month. On one day in June, at least 10 NFTDiscord channels were hacked, including the well-known channel BoredApeYachtClub (BAYC). On June 4, the club suffered several attacks.

According to TRMLabs, since May 2022, the NFT industry has lost about 22 million US dollars.

Fraudsters use sophisticated social engineering to pose as administrators or use bot exploits, TRMLabs said. Under certain conditions, the attacker was able to update the admin settings to strictly prohibit Discord moderators from influencing their operations.
